My computer has suddenly refused to boot up windows XP. Just before you get to the 'welcome' sequence, the system fails and it displays the following message:

"STOP:c0000135 {unable to locate component} This application failed to start because CSRSRV.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem."

Assuming I download the missing .dll file onto a floppy, how do I install it onto my computer without loading windows?

HELP!

nick,

first of all, the file is available at the link below...

Name: csrsrv.dll
Description: Client Server Runtime Process
Version: 5.1.2600.2180

http://www.dlldump.com/download-dll-files.php/dllfiles/C/csrsrv.dll/download.html

secondly, here is a post that addressed a similiar problem - not being able to load to the desktop and installing a dll file from ms-dos. you should be able to install your file following the same instructions.

http://www.dlldump.com/cgi-bin.....,highlight=dos#num10

Hi Nick,

Were you able to run the csrsrv.dll? And if so how did you do it?

I have downloaded the csrsv.dll onto a memory stick, but not sure how to run it.

I seem to be having the exact same problem as you - can't even reach the desktop of my computer, as the last screen it shows is this: "STOP:c0000135 {unable to locate component} This application failed to start because CSRSRV.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem."

I can't see on Patrick's link below the instructions of how to install?

Would be grateful for any assistance!

Thanks, Rodney

According to Microsoft the software called 'T.V. Media (TvMedia.tvmbho) from Total Velocity Corporation' can make the blue screen appear. Uninstall it to fix it. Else you could try to install Critical Update 885523 (also mentioned on Microsofts website about your error).

If nothing works, reinstall the whole OS, maybe try SP3 of XP or run Vista.
